Whatever stay-at-home mom Afsheen Hussain went into the Top Convenience store in Brooklyn for on Jan. 30, she ended up coming out with a whole lot more.
During her shopping excursion, Afsheen’s 2-year-old daughter, Anaya, reached a hand over the counter and placed it on a New York Poker lottery ticket. Afsheen determined her daughter’s action was a sign, and purchased the ticket.
The result? Anaya’s pick turned out to be a winning ticket, and mom and daughter are now millionaires.
“She touched it,” an excited Afsheen Ahsan told the New York Daily News on Tuesday as she and eight other lottery winners collected their winnings. “If she didn’t touch it, I wouldn’t have taken it. She’s lucky.”
Afsheen, who will collect $31,152 per year through 2031, will go on vacation for a while, and eventually hopes to open a grocery store with her boyfriend, 40-year-old grocery store worker Sayed Hussain.
Ahsan and Afsheen were not the only winners in the lottery, as eight other winners joined the mother and daughter at Resorts World Casino in Queens to claim their winnings.
Among those claiming prizes were Ron Hale, a high school teacher, who collected a $1 million Powerball prize on behalf of his 110-member group of co-workers called “Friends Win Together.”
Staten Island resident Yakov Sheydvasser won $5 million after buying Set For Life at another Brooklyn convenience store, while Bruce Magistro, from Long Island, won $1 million from theExtreme Cash scratch-off ticket.
For all the winners, it’s a chance to dream big for a very long time.
