794 civil servants in the Madrid region who had reported sick all made a miraculous recovery after receiving a phone call from an inspector. An inspection wasn’t even needed to get them back to work. The scheme was put together in collaboration with the National Social Security Institute.

In 2011 the Madrid region saved 23.6 million € with what was the second year of the ‘sickies’ inspection program. That is calculated to be more than 90,000 working days.

Over the last two years health inspectors have supervised the ‘temporary incapacity’ of 165,877 workers from the regional councils of Culture and Sport, Presidency and Justice, Economy, education, environment, health and Social Affairs.
